On this day, August 3rd, 1492, Christopher Columbus set sail from Palos de la Frontera, Spain on his great Journey of Discovery. His ships, the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria, would carry him and his 90 men across the ocean in search of a direct route to Asia; but would lead to an even greater discovery, the New World.
