An open letter to Italians, Italian American Organizations and Friends of the Italian Community
Italian American organizations in Massachusetts have seen a revival as of late. The unwarranted attacks on elements of our Heritage have brought attention to the fact that Italian Americans have a rich culture that must be respected and maintained. What is clear is that Italian / Italian American organizations are seeing the need to work together to protect that Heritage.
The traditional Columbus Day Parade in East Boston was not scheduled this year. So as not to lose the essence of this long and popular tradition celebrating Italian American Heritage, the Italian American Alliance is making an appeal to other organizations to join together to support an Italian / Italian American Cultural Celebration.
We are therefore reaching out to you in the hope of enlisting your support and collaboration for an Italian / Italian American Cultural Celebration on Columbus Day, October 10, 2022, from 11:00 am. to 3:00 pm. The event will be held at Tall Ship Park, 1 East Pier Drive, East Boston, MA.
As good stewards and trustees of our Italian culture, we have the moral obligation to monitor, defend, and retain the footprint of our Italian heritage in the culture of America, while preserving it for our future generations. Cultures are the lifeblood of societies. The character of who we are and what we contribute are directly related to the ways we share our culture, values, and traditions. Just as we need language to maintain a conversation, we need organizations to maintain cultures. Nothing can replace the authenticity of being in the midst of it and experiencing it firsthand.
For this very reason, the Italian American Alliance (IAA) is appealing to all Italian/Italian American organizations to collaborate in this Italian American Cultural Celebration that will be free to the public and is intended to give participants and attendees a sense of belonging, a way of promoting our values, a forum to create memories, and a powerful showing of our strength and identity to the Greater Boston communities.
It is our sincere hope that you will consider joining with us.
